David Williams letter, 1827 Dec. 28.

Letter from David Williams of Lawrence County, Miss., to relatives in Wilmington, N.C. Williams discusses the hardships of farming and the difficulty of getting produce to market; the health of family members; the economic distress in the community caused by unfavorable cotton prices; the preference of some local farmers for sugarcane as a cash crop; his dissatisfaction with life in Lawrence County and plans to move his family to lands opened up by the Choctaw and Chickasaw land purchases; and the approaching presidential contest between incumbent John Quincy Adams and his challenger Andrew Jackson, who Williams contends is losing support in Louisiana despite his general popularity in western states.
